Negotiations under brutal repression

Release
Troops are mobilized to Lower Aguán
The negotiations between the Unified Movement of Peasants of Aguán (MUCA) and Lower Aguan landowners have maintained in the background constant aggression against the peasants integrated into that organization.
The media-newspapers, radio and television, with few exceptions, have turned to denigrate farmers accusing them of conspiring against the national economy and  of establishing armed movements in the region.
Porfirio Lobo himself, even though he has promoted dialogue among the warring parties and played the role of mediator in this negotiation, has publicly expressed that farmers are not interested in land devoted to production, but instead of developing political activities to destabilize his government .
The farmers have refused to accept the proposal of the landowners, convinced that they intend to sell land at  arbitrarily high prices, which the farmers would have to pay with the additional problem that they will become suppliers of raw materials with no commercial alternatives, totally dependent of Miguel Facussé and Rene Morales.
.
The violence imposed by the security guards of the landowners, with apparent support of the army and police against farmers, their families and people in solidarity with their movement has killed six peasants MUCA members and journalists who have reported objectively about what actually happens in that region.
We have reported that last night the army moved troops from Olancho to Lower Aguán and now 12 commands  mobilize  from La Ceiba to the same destination.
Peasant leaders have tried to communicate by telephone with the designated president, Samuel Reyes and Director of the National Agrarian Institute (INA), Cesar Ham, and none were answered. When able to communicate with the Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Jacobo Regalado Weizemblut, he told them he did not know these mobilizations of the army.
As we have repeatedly warned, the regime led by Lobo Sosa should lead the forces of repression to the adequacy required under the conflict in Aguán to prevent violence  with unpredictable results, when the brutal practices  used by these state forces to  treat t Honduran citizens are known.

Again, we call upon the international community and human rights organizations to keep an eye on current events and take the steps within their power to avoid the deepening of violence in the Lower Aguán.
