In police checkpoint captured INA Regional Director of the Department of Colon

Tocoa Colon. A few hours after signing a letter of compromise between the government and the Unified Movement of Peasants in Aguan, the Regional Director of the National Agrarian Institute, Coronado Avila Mendoza, was arrested today at three o'clock in the afternoon at a police checkpoint set up in the community of Zamora, Colon.

The INA Regional Director of Tocoa, Colon, was driving a car owned by the State and  when in   Zamora members of the police and the army made him pull over, he was asked for  his personal documents and when comparing them with the list of outstanding arrest warrants, they  informed him that he would be arrested.

Avila Mendoza, has accompanied the struggle for land, which has been  fought for many years by farmers of the  Aguan Valley and  courts have issued an arrest warrant
against him on charges of  usurpation.

It should be stressed, that in the context of the political crisis the country faces since  June 28 last year, many cases against leaders of the popular movement were revived by the courts and now the director of INA is being held in the Colon National Directorate of Criminal Investigation in this city.
