US Southcom Commander Visits Honduras to Renew Military Ties

The commander of United States Southern Command (Southcom), General Douglas Fraser, arrived in Tegucigalpa on Sunday to renew US bilateral relations with the Honduran military. Gen. Fraser met with Minister of Defense Marlon Pascua, as well as US Ambassador to Honduras, Hugo Llorens. He was scheduled to meet yesterday with members of Honduras'Joint Chiefs of the Armed Forces. Southcom oversees US military activities with the defense and security forces of 45 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Among the topics for discussion on Gen. Fraser's agenda have been combating illegal drug trafficking, humanitarian assistance projects, disaster response training, human rights, educational exchanges, and participation in bilateral and multinational military exercises. Gen. Fraser is a graduate of the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is a pilot, with more than 2,700 flying hours, mainly in F-15 and F-16 fighter aircraft.
