Honduran social movements that oppose the coup, claimed yesterday a campaign of pressure from business groups to force their workers to vote in the elections on Nov. 29, under threat of being fired.
As one of the leaders of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations (COPINH), Berta Caceres, the campaign was discovered during an investigation conducted by this agency.
He warned that a large number of employers threatened the workers who must verify their vote in the elections and if otherwise, will be dismissed.
Caceres explained that workers must have the ink stain on their fingers, one of the steps required in polling people who vote in order to prevent double voting.
The Indian leader added that the National Front against the coup Honduras maintains the same position as the organization it represents: the rejection of elections driven by the de facto government and that they consider to be organized by illegitimate authorities imposed and without the presence of the constitutional president, Manuel Zelaya.
Also stressed that the alliance of two social forces have decided to ignore the results of the elections next 29th November as a sham to legitimize the coup of June 28.
Meanwhile, the leader of the Resistance Front against the coup in Honduras, Rafael Alegria, on Tuesday in an exclusive interview he granted to teleSUR urged people not to vote.
"We urge the population to the electoral civil disobedience to send a message to the insurgents that the people's rejects," he added.
Caceres said the National Resistance Front is getting stronger in neighborhoods and districts in the Central District, and said the popular force is unstoppable like the rejection of the electoral farce fascist oligarchs who ride the de facto regime.
