Ecuador won't recognize elections and calls on international community to do the same
Ecuador said today that it will ignore the results of the elections on November 29 in Honduras and urged the international community to do the same, considering that these elections are totally rigged.
"There are no conditions for the development of an electoral process that election are quite obviously flawed and should not be recognized by the international community," said Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Fander Falconi, told Latin American television network Telesur.
Falconi insisted his country and most of the international community demand the immediate return of deposed Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, and deplored the attitude of the de facto president Roberto Micheletti of ignoring the agreements achieved to overcome the crisis in this Central American country.
It also dismissed the announcement of a temporary removal Micheletti of power, between November 25 and December 2, offering a quiet period for Hondurans to the polls.
Ecuadorian Foreign Minister recalled that the international community has repeatedly rejected the coup in Honduras on June 28 against Zelaya, because in his view, committed a violation of the rights of all Hondurans.
"We have expressed their rejection, we have contributed to the international community to exert pressure and resistance to the coup," said Falconi, after insisting that the return of Zelaya in power is the basis for overcoming the crisis in Honduras.
"There is no possibility of a return to democracy and national harmony except on the basis of returning to the presidency Zelaya of Honduras," said the foreign minister of Ecuador.
