707 attacks on human rights for political reasons have taken place in Honduras after four months of the new regime

Red Morazánica de Información
Tegucigalpa, 03 June 2010. The representative of the Committee of Relatives of Detained and Disappeared in Honduras (COFADEH), Mary Agurcia, informed that  they have recorded 707 reported cases of politically motivated attacks in the country since January 30th, just three days after the inauguration of the  Porfirio Lobo regime.
The human rights violations occurred in Honduras reach about 9000, from June 2009 to January 2010, including violations of "open and massive, the sectored  and then the ones we have now."
There have been 544 "incidents" happening to human rights defenders. They range from the "surveillance of the offices of the various human rights organizations, to persecution, murder and illegal detention."
Before the coup, there was already a  "difficult situation" of human rights, Agurcia evaluated.
But the difference is that "it wasn't a state policy" but rather "rooted behavior " in the officials, who were dragged from the 1980's.
She analyzed that there are "some institutions that had been created for 15 years - one cannot say that was a democracy, and torture had been reactivated in administrative detention. Prior to June 2009, at least 50 cases were recorded, but it didn't take place with the same dimensions of the 1980's. "
"Violations of human rights are now taking place for political reasons, and not so much due to abuse of authority at this time [since January], the violations are as much due to both abuse of authority and  to political reasons," she said.
The event was held at the headquarters of Women in the Arts (MUA), after the head of the Department for Culture, Arts and Sports, Bernard Martinez, banned it in the National Library.
