The military did not go to the initial judicial hearings regarding the removal of Zelaya

The six members of the Joint Chiefs of Armed Forces of Honduras accused by expulsion from the country's ousted president, Manuel Zelaya, 8 June 2009, did not show this Thursday at the initial hearing of the case against him, reported judicial sources. The hearing began with several hours delay for the evacuation of an appeal filed late challenge by a private body of human rights against the president of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and natural judge of the case, Jorge Rivera, that this rejected, a source told Efe that body.

The prosecutor in the case, Marcio Cabañas, told reporters that the parties, at the request of the defense, agreed that the six military should not be presented to the audience celebrated by Rivera.
"The law already states that the presence or the absence of them will not stop  the hearing," Cabanas said, noting that the Public Ministry (MP) would ask Rivera to order the detention of the military.
A lawyer for the officers, Juan Carlos Sanchez, said that "there never existed  elements to issue an arrest warrant  against them" and expressed the hope that the judge maintained the protective measures given to them a week ago.
Rivera ordered last Thursday, after a"accusation hearing statement ", that the six military not leave Honduras and submit each month to sign a register at the secretariat of the CSJ.
The MP accused the military of abuse of authority and expatriation by the expulsion of Zelaya to Costa Rica after his overthrow. The Constitution prohibits the deportation of Hondurans.
Members of the Joint Chiefs of Armed Forces are the head and deputy head of the Joint Chiefs, General Romeo Vasquez and Cervantes Venancio, respectively.
Moreover, also comprised of the heads of the army, Gen. Miguel Angel Garcia Padgett, Air Force Gen. Luis Javier Prince, and the Navy, Admiral Juan Pablo Rodriguez, and the inspector general of the Armed Forces, General Carlos Cuellar. EFE
