Strangers in cars without license plates lurk house of tortured cameraman

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 26, 2010 16:14 DINA MEZA

Ricardo Rodriguez
Ricardo Rodriguez, TV news cameraman of the TV program "Mi Nación" was kidnapped, taken to a secret jail where he was tortured and later released in the middle of the night, but his oppressors are still watching him  in cars without license plates, with tinted windows and wander around his home, he told defensoresenlinea.com.
The kidnapping occurred on 02 February in a gas station in  Boulevard Central  in the capital, along with Rodriguez they also took Manuel de Jesús Murillo, both worked in the Presidential House during the administration of President Manuel Zelaya Rosales.

On that day two men in civilian clothes, with  nine millimeters guns and plates of the Security Secretariat held them at gunpoint and warned them if they cried or did not cooperate they would die there, then they were then taken to an unknown house for torture and interrogation. Read more

In the previous November in the preamble of the spurious elections held in the country by the coup leaders, Rodriguez had been arrested by police and taken to the police post in the colonia Kennedy in Tegucigalpa, where he was photographed by a man whose face he does not forget. The same man who participated in his abduction was infiltrated the march of February 25, conducted by the People's National Resistance Front.

But the harassment has increased: first an arrest after a kidnapping and torture, just happened to Walter Tróchez, defender of human rights of the lesbian-gay-transsexual, on 04 December, nine days later was killed with an accurate shot in the middle of the capital city.

Last week, Rodriguez went to the Attorney for Human Rights where he detailed how his rights were violated, although the case is serious, thre are still no results of any ongoing investigation.

Given the gravity of the situation against the physical integrity of the two young people, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, IACHR asked the Honduran State to take urgent measures for them and their families.
The request involves three issues:

1.-Take the necessary steps to safeguard the lives and physical integrity of Manuel de Jesus Varela Ricardo Murillo and Antonio Rodriguez and their families.

2.-Concerte the measures taken by the beneficiaries and their representatives.
3.-Reports on research undertaken on the events that led to the adoption of precautionary measures to remove the risk factors for beneficiaries.
