Zelaya's body was found with three gunshots to the head on Tuesday night, on a sugarcane plantation near the city of Villanueva, 200 km north of the Honduran capital, Security Ministry spokesman Leonel Sauceda said.

His death brought the number of murdered news workers to 10. It is one of the sectors most affected by repression in the country since the 2009 coup d'etat.

Over 300 attacks on journalists were reported, including murder, abuse, intimidation, condemnation and even the shutting down of news agencies.

Just in the first half of 2010, nine journalists were violently killed, while others had to leave the country after being threatened.
