Approximately 500,000 people march for a Constituent Assembly and against repression being carried out by the current regime only in Tegucigalpa, marches take place throughout many cities in the country

According to the FNRP(Frente Nacional de Resistencia Popular), around 500,000 people were marching only in Tegucigalpa on May Day, asking mainly for a National Constituent Assembly, although massive marches and demonstrations took place all over the country and in different cities, even in small towns. Only in Tegucigalpa, not only more than 200 worker's union movements marched,  but also a great deal of independent citizen movements.

Among the things marchers asked for besides demanding a Popular National Constituent Assembly, were salary raise, protesting against the new fiscal measures imposed to the working class, asking to dissolve the army, invest more on quality education, health, make these accessible and free to the whole population, eliminations of fees and exclusion of poor children to access education,

fiscal reforms but for the richest, to eliminate tax exoneration to support producers and informal economy, agrarian reform that includes land titles, support to agricultural production, the small and medium entrepeneurs, strengthening of credit systems, of storage and commercialization
and investigation of political crimes committed since June 28, when the coup against president Zelaya took place, and also after, during this regime, which is the follow-up of the coup. Zelaya's inconditional return to the country as well of  Father Tamayo's and over 200 people who were forced into political exile  since the coup and during this government were also among the main demands.

Other demands were the non privatization of all State institutions(since the current regime seeks to privatize State Schools and the National Autonomous University), respecting freedom of association and the workers' right to form unions, the right to job stability, since workers state that with this government all of their conquests have been threatened.

Although the people do not only want salary raises, they do not only speak about basic needs, but they are demanding the transformation of the archaic structures of the country.

This is also why their main demand is a national constituent assembly, since the State needs to be refounded and this would be the path to completely solve all other demands of fair salaries, education, and free universal, quality health, the need of homes, food, public services, and the main solution to problems of insecurity and criminality, malnutristion, and exploitation of natural resources.
Furthermore, another demand was the removal of all officials who participated in the coup d'état and who currently remain in state positions, as well as expressing  disbelief in the so-called Truth Commission.

Thousands of people stopped to sign the "Sovereign Declaration for a Constituent Assembly" , a document signed by all peoples in resistance to demand a national constituent assembly to congress, in collection centers during the march.

Among the marchers' chants:
“Fuera los corruptos”(Corrupts out), “La constituyente viene y nadie la detiene”(The constituent comes and no one can stop it), “Sicarios a la cárcel”(hitmen to jail) “El aumento a la gasolina, al pueblo asesina”(the raise in gasoline kills the people), “el gobierno del humanismo cristiano está asesinando al ciudadano” (the christian humanist government kills the citizen),  “a pie, en burro o en caravana todos a firmar la declaración

soberana"(Whether walking,  riding a donkey, or  in caravan we will  all sign the Sovereign Declaration), “el pueblo y la gente quiere la constituyente"(the people want the constituent).

President Lula criticized the Honduran military amnesty

On Thursday, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticized the amnesty given to the Honduran military, which carried out  a coup d'etat in June 2009 against the constitutional president Jose Manuel Zelaya ...

At a press conference to mark the ninth presidential quarterly meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart, Hugo Chávez, the Brazilian head of state said that "in Honduras a fantastic thing happened: the new government granted amnesty to the military, but not to the deposed president."
It's something that multilateralism will have to help find a solution, said Lula, whose government does not recognize the new Honduran government, being elected under a de facto state.
Brazil, which hosted  Zelaya a number of months at its embassy in Tegucigalpa,  considered the replacement of the constitutionally elected president  essential to legitimize the general election last November in the Central American nation.
On the coup of June 28, 2009, Lula said today that "in Honduras a military junta thought it had  the right to remove a democratically elected president and to take him out."
Then the Brazilian president went on saying, "these Honduran military thought they could do whatever they want"
What was shown in the Honduras episode  is that our continental democracy is still weak and that institutions are not strong enough so that we can all have the guarantees that this will not happen again," he said.

Déjà Vu: Criminalization of Children and Youth in Honduras by the authorities and media(already happened in the first Lobo-Alvarez administration during the Maduro presidency 2001-2005)

Children and Youth: responsible for the crime rate in Honduras?

That's what is believed in the National Congress. Therefore, it was requested to widen 8-15 years the time of internment for juvenile offenders in detention centers in subhuman conditions, which  instead of  rehabilitating children and young people, they become more perverted.
images It was the nationalist deputy, Rolando Dubón Bueso, who  requested that measure through a draft decree presented to the plenary session of the Legislature.
The congressman believes that the request will counteract the continuing crimes that are committed in the country.

The draft decree, by which articles 198 and 204 of the Code of Childhood and Adolescence are amended, also provides that actions against child offenders  expire in 10 years.

However, Dubón Bueso's proposal, doesn't present any clear rationale on how this provision would help to reduce high crime rates.

A measure that will bring unnecessary complications!

"It is an old suggestion of this man and others who have never been able to prove with any diagnosis, the reasons to believe that extreme.  They'd have to prove that children under 18 are the main cause of crime ", disputes against the bill introduced, the former deputy alternate for the Democratic Unification Party and a  child rights defender, Tomas Andino.

Andino considered the proposal a futile measure.  "It's going to cause complications, because they will put boys in the detention center who are going to congestion it. . What  should be attacked is high crime, debug the police, make repression against those who commit white collar crimes. These are the real root causes of crime, not to attack children and adolescents," he said.

Andino goes back to the presentation of the draft, the absence in the country, of true juvenile detention centers, which provide rehabilitation and social reintegration of juvenile offenders.

The Honduran Institute for Children and Families-IHNFA-is the entity of the state, policymakers in both sectors.  However, it is an institution that allocates three quarters of its budget in salaries and wages.

It manages  open, semi-closed, and closed centers, such as Renacer, where young offenders are detained. However, it has endemic problems among   stunted budgets which are barely enough to feed its tenants.

The center for juvenile offenders Renacer, is a clear example of the need for change.  Revistazo.com made in the recent past, various studies on the inhumane conditions in which these youth live.

Its infrastructure is not keeping up with the needs of young people.  Development programs, workshops and staff are not qualified for the work of social counseling. We can also mention regarding the crisis of the center, that it houses an average of 200 young people, despite having a capacity of 120.

"It's absurd, I do not think anything is resolved, it is a kind of distraction to divert the attention of agents which actually hold the real crime rates,"  Andino said at the end of the interview.
